Lady Patriots Advance to Tennis Semifinals

Mt. Pisgah girls tennis advances with win over Mt. Paran.

The girl's tennis team advanced to the Final Four of the GHSA playoffs on Thursday with a 3-2 win over Mt. Paran. In a hard-fought match the No. 1 rank Patriots defeated No. 2 Mt. Paran when Aryn Green won the No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-3. The defending state champions will now play either Savannah Christian or Bacon County in the state semifinals.

The sister team of Blanca and Ines Tarrago picked up Pisgah's first point winning at No.2 doubles 6-3, 6-0. Taylor Carlson (No. 2 singles) lost her match 3-6, 3-6 to even things at one point each. Samantha Russell picked up another point for the Patriots at No. 3 singles winning 7-6, 6-1. After losing the first set, the No. 1 doubles team of Nicole Peters and Cissy Jamieson battled back to win the second set, but dropped the third set to give another point to Mt. Paran (2-6, 6-4, 2-6).

The No. 3 Pisgah boys’ team will also look to reach the state Final Four on Monday when they host top ranked Whitefield Academy. The match will be played at the Country Club of Roswell at 3:30.

The Final Four matches will be held at the Clayton County Tennis Center in Jonesboro on May 11-12.
