Johns Creek Rallies to Defeat Chattahoochee

Cougars drop region match-up to Gladiators 9-6.

On Monday, the Chattahoochee Cougars baseball team hosted the Johns Creek Gladiators in an important Region 7AAAA contest.

Both teams put a run on the scoreboard in their halves of the first inning, before the Cougars jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a three-run homer by catcher Christian Sutherland. Chattahoochee scored again in the fourth when Grant Wruble singled to drive in a run.

The Gladiators picked up two runs in the top of the fifth inning, but still trailed the Cougars 5-3 going into the sixth inning. That's when things got interesting for Johns Creek.

A perfectly executed hit and run single by the Gladiators' Bo Sams moved pinch runner Davis Mitchell to third base.  Mitchell scored seconds later on a passed ball. Sams scored the tying run on a second passed ball. Then the go-ahead run came in on a throwing error that sailed over the Chattahoochee catcher's head to the backstop.

When the dust settled on the sixth inning, Johns Creek had taken a 6-5 lead.
