Johns Creek Mom Bringing Healthy Snacks to Schools
Company replaces traditional vending machines with healthier options.
When trying to decide what kind of business to focus her entrepreneurial skills on, Johns Creek resident and parent Shari Dover-Calicchio found the idea of bringing healthy snacks into schools appealing.
Dover-Calicchio and her husband, Andy, have partnered with HUMAN Healthy Vending to bring state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly vending machines to local schools, hospitals and community gathering spots. Northview High and Chattahoochee High in Johns Creek and Lambert High in Forsyth have already jumped on board.
It is very exciting to know that our partnership schools, like , and Lambert High, will be some of the first schools in Georgia to provide 'true healthy' snack options for students. What I mean by 'true healthy' is that we’re committed to providing only 100% all natural and organic products,” said Dover-Calicchio.

The machines meet the standards required in schools by the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act, and feature popular snack brands such as Pirate's Booty, Sun Chips and Goldfish in addition to multi-grain snack bars, organic cookies and crackers, and juice, tea and milk. Some 750 machines can be found across the country.
Additionally, the machines are educational with an attached LCD TV screen digitally streaming health education videos.

"HUMAN machines are designed to educate with their interactive HD screens that provide nutrition information on the products available for sale. We see ourselves partnering with schools and businesses to begin the educational wave for nutrition and health that must sweep our nation,” said Dover-Calicchio. “Our vending machines are super cool and educational.
