Johns Creek 5th-Grader Wins Google Art Contest

Public will vote on national winner.

A Johns Creek student is in the running to win a national Google art contest after winning in the state category.

Christine Jeong, a fifth-grader at Wilson Creek Elementary School, is the Georgia winner in the sixth annual “Doodle for Google” contest. 

Guest judges for the state finalists included television personality Katie Couric; Brian Henson, puppeteer and chairman of the Jim Henson Co.; and animation director Chris Sanders.

Now the public has a chance to vote for their favorite doodle from the state winners to help select five national finalists (one per grade group).  Voting will be open through May 10 here.

The winning doodle will be on the Google homepage May 23. The student will win a $30,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 technology grant for his or her school.

The contest was open to students across the country, asking them to redesign the Google logo with the theme “My Best Day Ever.”

“My best day ever would definitely involve animals,” said Christine, whose doodle is entitled Concert with Animals. “I am very excited about going to New York. This will be my first trip there,” she said in a press release.
