Hooch Grad Makes Lacrosse History in College

Aubrey Bausum makes spectacular college debut with scoring first two goals in history of Transy program.

Aubrey Bausum, a 2012 Chattahoochee High School graduate and attacker for the Transylvania University women's lacrosse team, is currently ranked first nationally by the NCAA for goals per game and is ranked 11th nationally for total goals.

Bausum, a freshman who also was named one of the team's three captains, has 48 goals in the first eight games of the inaugural season for Transylvania, an NCAA Division III school in Lexington, Ky.

While at Chattahoochee, she was a three-time letter-winner in lacrosse, helping the Cougars to a trio of Area Championships and one State Final Four appearance. In 2011 she was named to the Georgia National team, first team. In 2012 she was team captain, offensive MVP and named First Team All-State by the GHSA. This year, Bausum became one of the only Chattahoochee players ever to be named US Lacrosse All-American and US Lacrosse Academic All-American in the same year.

Bausum had the first two goals in the history of the Transy program March 2 during a game against Wilmington, scoring at the 24:46 mark. Her second goal came just three minutes later, and four more followed in the opening 30 minutes of play. Bausum's college debut would be spectacular indeed, as she scored 10 of the Pioneers' 16 goals and assisted on three more, while their opponents came away with just two goals.

"Aubrey had a great day and led our attack well. She will only get better as the season goes on," said Head Coach Haley Marvine, a former Big East goalie and team captain for the University of Cincinnati women’s lacrosse team who is also a Chattahoochee graduate.

"I am so proud of our team. We worked so hard last fall and in preseason and it's always good to see when that hard work pays off.  Aubrey was just unbelievable," Marvine continued, "but we had a number of players step up and contribute. They did everything we asked of them and it was a great day for our program."

The Pioneers, who wrap up play April 23, are currently 3-5 for the season.
