Hooch Drama Producing Two Shows in October

Chattahoochee High drama class bringing Jane Austen characters to life.

Jane Austen’s most popular novel comes to life on stage when production of "Pride and Prejudice" opens Wednesday, Oct. 17, in The Little Theater and and has a second performance Saturday, Oct. 20, both at 7 p.m. This one act adaptation is a fun and witty adaption written by Helen Jerome and is now set in the late 1940s.

Mrs. Bennett (Stephanie Miller) is determined to get her daughters, Jane (Lauren Tracy), Elizabeth (Jessie Douglass) and Lydia (Pinky Dinohja), married. The play is the story of the duel between Elizabeth and her pride and her suitor, Mr. Darcy (Brian Samuels), and his prejudice. Each gives in before the evening is over and pride and prejudice meet halfway.

Also featured are Jake McCracken as Mr. Bennet, Christian Heyl as Mr. Bingley, Neema Tavakolian as Mr. Wickham, Derek Henderson as Mr.Collins, Julia Ward as Ms. Bingley, Erin Cureau as Lady Catherine, Shelby Carpenter as Charlotte Lucas, Madison Kress as Lady Lucas, Netta Chester as Amelia, Christie Barker as Mrs. Gardiner, and A. J. Hatcher as Colonel Fitzwilliam.

This production is one of two shows Chattahoochee High will be producing this October, the other being "The 39 Steps," a suspenseful romantic comedy, based on the 1935 movie by Alfred Hitchcock, which will also be playing on the Main Stage, Oct. 11 through Oct. 13, all at 7 p.m. Five actors play more than 100 characters in this part spy novel-part comedy Tony Award-winning play.

In "The 39 Steps," a man with a boring life meets a woman with a thick accent who says she's a spy. When he takes her home, she is murdered. Soon, a mysterious organization called The 39 Steps is hot on the man's trail in a nationwide manhunt that climaxes in a death-defying finale.

The play stars Lucy Brooks, Griffin Freeman, Ashley Biscan, Ross Manning and Brian Wittenberg, who play more than 100 roles in the play.

Audiences can also look forward to two more shows at CHS this winter – "Look Homeward, Angel," a drama based on the Thomas Wolfe novel of the same name and "Ruthless!", a spoof on "All About Eve" and "The Bad Seed."

Tickets will be sold at the door for $5 for the public and $3 for students. All performances of "Pride and Prejudice" will be held in The Little Theater, Room D109, while performances of "The 39 Steps" will be held in the Auditorium.
