Fulton Schools Superintendent Cooks Meal for Students at Autrey Mill

Dr. Robert Avossa recently stopped by to visit with the school's cooking club.

Autrey Mill Middle School’s Cooks’ Club had a guest chef in the kitchen this week when Superintendent of Fulton County Schools Dr. Robert Avossa stopped by to cook with the club.

Avossa shared a family recipe for spaghetti and spicy fish sauce. As he prepared the dish, he also shared stories of his Italian heritage and infused the session with tips for cooking to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The students prepared a salad bar and freshly squeezed vegetable/fruit juice to complement the spaghetti.

As a testament to Avossa’s cooking, not a strand of spaghetti was left in the pot, say school leaders.

Autrey Mill has sponsored the Cooks’ Club in conjunction with First Lady Obama’s incentive, Chefs Move to School, since 2010. The club meets once a month, and under the guidance of chef-in-residence Carlin Breinig, the students learn about and prepare healthy alternatives to high calorie snacks and meals.
