Flapjack 5K Set for Saturday

Event started by Pisgah student to benefit leukemia charity.

The brainchild of junior Katie Strawinski, the Flapjack Dash 5K and Kids Race will take place on Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Patriot Athletic Campus. All money raised from the event will benefit Jeffrey’s Voice, a charity whose mission is to help find a cure for leukemia.

“I got involved with Jeffrey’s Voice after Nancy Horne [the founder of Jeffrey’s Voice] came to speak in chapel several years ago,” Strawinski, a member of Pisgah’s cross country and track teams, said. “I wanted to do something to help her out because she has had a big influence on me. I thought I could put on a race, because I know a lot about races. I love races with pancakes, which is where the name came from.”

The 5K race will begin at the Patriot Athletic Campus and continue across the street to . Additionally, there will also be a kid’s race one time around Pisgah’s 400 meter track. Pancakes will be available for everyone after the race.
