Fulton Students Exceed End-of-Course Test Average

Results released today by the Georgia Department of Education show that Fulton County students exceeded the statewide average on End-of-Course tests, according Fulton County Schools.

The Georgia Department of Education said that statewide, students improved on nearly every 2013 End-of-Course Test (EOCT) compared to last year.

In 2011 the State Board of Education began phasing out Georgia High School Graduation Tests, beginning with students who entered ninth grade in the 2011-12 school year. For these students, the EOCT counts as 20 percent of the student’s final grade, an increase from the previous 15 percent.

Some EOCT highlights from Fulton County Schools:

  • English/Language Arts: Fulton County has a higher percentage of students passing and scoring in the Exceeds category than the state average for both Ninth Grade Literature & Comprehension and American Literature & Comprehension. One hundred percent of the students at Chattahoochee passed the Ninth Grade Literature & Comprehension EOCT. In American Literature & Comprehension, nine schools had 95 percent or more of the students passing – Alpharetta, Cambridge, Centennial, Chattahoochee, Johns Creek, Milton, Northview, North Springs and Roswell high schools.
  • Social Studies: Social Studies scores remain high with Fulton outperforming the state in the Exceeds category by more than 10 percentage points in both U.S. History and Economics again this year. Three schools showed double-digit gains in the Exceeds level in U.S. History – Alpharetta, Centennial and North Springs high schools. Eight schools showed double-digit gains in the percentage of students in the Exceeds category in Economics – Alpharetta, Creekside, Fulton Science Academy, Langston Hughes, Milton, Northview, North Springs and Westlake high schools.
