Barnwell Foundation Breaks Ground on School Courtyard

The Barnwell Foundation on Monday broke ground on a new courtyard for Barnwell Elementary School. The foundation, which was formed to raise funds for the school beyond the scope of the school board and PTA, has been raising money for this project for the past year through private donations and β€œstone sponsorships.”

Construction will transform the existing, enclosed courtyard into an outdoor learning and meditation environment for both students and teachers and is planned to include a stream, rain barrels and a bird sanctuary.Β

Special guests for the groundbreaking included Mayor Mike Bodker, District 5 school board member Linda McCain and Fulton County Commissioner Liz Hausmann.

The non-profit group continues to raise money for the project through donations and the purchase of permanent courtyard stones that can be etched with family or business names. For more information, visit the foundation's Facebook page.
