'Arts On The Creek' Awards Scholarships

Arts On The Creek Inc. (AOTC) has awarded three $500 Fine Art Scholarships to top senior art students in the three public high schools in Johns Creek.

Scholarship recipients were selected by the Art Department faculty and administration of each high school: Chattahoochee, Johns Creek and Northview. Funds for the scholarships were raised from sponsors and other sources at last year's festival.

AOTC President Ron Cioffi said, "One of Arts On The Creek's goals is to nurture, promote and exhibit the great artwork produced in Johns Creek. By supporting these accomplished young artists and city residents, we will continue to grow the quality and quantity of artists and artwork created here in our great city."

“Great art is created and produced by so many of the youth in our city’s fine schools. We want to develop the creative talent of the children of our city. Arts On The Creek awarded a $500 Fine Arts Scholarship to each of these graduating seniors to continue their education and artistic development at a college or university,” said AOTC Vice President & Treasurer Scott Kallish.

selected Adam Amram. He was a finalist for Young Arts and was named a Silver Key Portfolio winner with distinction from the Scholastics Art and Writing Awards. He attended the prestigious Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation program along with the precollege program at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, where he will begin his studies in the fall. He had his first solo show, Langour, at the TULA Art Center and Galleries in Atlanta and currently has his latest body of work at the Mason Muier Gallery in Buckhead, where he is part of a group show called Refresh 2.

selected MinJu Shinn, who is pursuing study in fashion design. She has elected to study at the Fashion Institute of Technology after being accepted to numerous other prestigious fashion and art schools. A 2011 honor student, Shinn has been awarded one Gold Medal, two Gold Keys and one Silver Key by the 2011 Scholastic Art Competition, along with four Silver Keys and three Honorable Keys in the 2012 Competition. Additionally, she received a Silver Medal in the 2011 Congressional Art Competition.

has selected Maryyann Landlord. According to Northview art teacher Jeannette Clawson, “Maryyann has been living and breathing art since she picked up her grandmother's sewing scissors to create paper cut-outs at the age of four. … Her artistic voice is evolving and the quality and complexity of her work far surpasses her peers.” Her credits include: a solo exhibition in the Children's Museum of Atlanta in 2004, Peachtree Morning WXIA/11 Alive for paper cutting work in 2000 and a solo exhibition in Jacqueline Casey Hudgens Center for the Arts. Landlord earned Regional Scholastic Art Award Gold Keys and Silver Keys over the last two years. In addition, her painting was selected for display at the first Fulton County Advanced Placement student art show at Atlanta’s High Museum of Art in conjunction with the Salvador Dali Surrealism Exhibit last fall. She will attend Carnegie Mellon University, College of Fine Arts this fall and plans to pursue a career in three-dimensional animation.

Arts On The Creek Inc. is a volunteer-based organization founded in 2012 after working as a Johns Creek Chamber of Commerce committee and event since 2007. Arts On The Creek has applied for 501(c)3 status. Arts On The Creek’s major annual event has been Arts On The Creek, an annual arts festival traditionally held in Johns Creek on Labor Day weekend.
