Election News: Three of Four Johns Creek Seats Contested

The mayor's seat and two city council will be challenged in the upcoming municipal elections in November.

The period for candidates seeking to run in the upcoming municipal election ended Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. with the four incumbents and four challengers plunking down the money for the qualifying fees.

Seats up for re-election are the mayor and city council seats for Post 1, 3 and 5. All four incumbents Mike Bodker (mayor), Randall Johnson (Post 1), Karen Richardson (Post 3), and Kelly Stewart (Post 5) qualified to run again.

Three of the four seats are challenged, Stewart (Post 5) is the lone council member who does not have a challenger.

Bev Miller, former council member for Post 6 will challenge incumbent Mike Bodker for the mayor's seat. Miller resigned from her City Council seat as required by the city's charter.  The city will hold a Special Election next year to fill the vacant seat.

Leonarde Zaprowski, a chiropractor, has qualified to run against Johnson for Post 1.

And Karen Richardson (Post 3), has two challengers, Nancy Rienecke, a dietitian and nutritionist, and Corinth Davenport, owner of Trinity Athletics.

Johns Creek municipal elections will be held Nov. 5, 2013. If a run-off election is necessary, that date is Tuesday, Dec. 3.
