Qualifying Ends for Johns Creek City Council Hopefuls

Figueroa, Miller will run unopposed for a third term on city council while three candidates will vie for the seat left vacant by Councilman Dan McCabe, who has decided not to run for another term.

Qualifying for the November election ended Wednesday with three Johns Creek residents tossing their hats in the ring to fill the seat being vacated by retiring Post 2 City Councilman Dan McCabe.

Brad Raffensperger, Swapna Bhave and Steve Broadbent each paid the $450 qualifying fee required to campaign for city council.

Raffensperger is a civil engineer, Bhave is a Biomed Tech II and Broadbent is a consultant.

Post 4 Councilman Ivan Figueroa and Post 6 Councilwoman Bev Miller have qualified to run for a third term.

Figueroa is a member of the Johns Creek Zoning subcommittee whose zoning and community development knowledge contributed to the creation of the city of Johns Creek.

Figueroa is also a member of the Board of Directors for Senior Services of North Fulton and the Isakson-Alpharetta YMCA. A strong believer in parental support of public education, he has served as Team Manager for Destination Imagination, a teens' creativity group at Chattahoochee High School.

He is a Cum-Laude graduate from Elmhurst College, with a BS in Transportation Management.

Miller was first elected in 2006, the same year as Figueroa, after more than 12 years of community service experience in the Johns Creek community. She is a member of the Johns Creek Convention and Visitors Bureau.

She is also a founding board member of the Committee for Johns Creek (CJC), serving as its Treasurer. The CJC spearheaded the grassroots movement to incorporate what was then the unincorporated portion of Northeast Fulton County into the City of Johns Creek.

She served as a legislative aide for State Rep. Chuck Martin at the Georgia General Assembly for the 2004, 2005 and 2006 legislative sessions.

Miller holds a BS in Accounting and a MS in Taxation from Drexel University in Philadelphia.

The November election will also feature a referendum on Sunday alcohol sales.
