Newtown School – Were You There?

The old Newtown School reopens Thursday as a senior center.

The historic Newtown School on Old Alabama Road at Newtown Park will come back to life Thursday morning as an activity center for adults ages 62 and older.

After undergoing an extensive remodeling, Park Place at Newtown Park, located at 3125 Old Alabama Road, will offer a variety of classes and activities.

The building was originally built as a school in 1929 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006 after closing in 1980.

The brick exterior of the nearly 5,000-square-foot building and the ceilings, as well as some of the six-panel doors, are original, but everything else is new.

In honor of Park Place's , the City of Johns Creek collected nearly 30 photos of students, classrooms, teachers and school ceremonies and activities dating from the 1930s to the 1970s of the historic school. Click here to see the collection.
