Starting today, Johns Creek residents commuting north through the intersection of Medlock Bridge and McGinnis Ferry roads should expect delays.

The Georgia Department of Transportation has started its project to extend the left-hand turn lane on Medlock Bridge by 300 feet. Construction will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the week throughout June and possibly into July.

The work will require lane closures and "cause significant delays" on the northbound side of Medlock Bridge Road, the city said.

Once finished, the extended lane will accommodate more left-turning vehicles, which will also improve the overall flow of northbound traffic.
