State Bridge Road Project Gets Boost From GDOT

Johns Creek on list of funded transportation projects.

Eight transportation projects, one of them in Johns Creek, got a $4.2 million boost today.

State Transportation Board member Brandon Beach announced $500,000 in funding for bioretention improvements and landscaping for the city. Other areas receiving funding include Alpharetta and Sandy Springs and Cobb and Cherokee counties.

Ken Hildebrandt, Public Works director for Johns Creek, said the funds, which are meant to be matched by 25 percent, or $125,000, locally, will pay for a project along State Bridge Road from the Chattahoochee River to Kimball Bridge Road.

The result will be a subbase of sand and sediment in the depressed median that will filter out pollutants from vehicles, thus improving the quality of stormwater runoff. The median will be heavily planted with local species, and landscaping along shoulders and intersections along this route will also take place.

"We will ask the city council to consider the match for the fiscal year 2012 budget," Hildebrandt said. "If it's approved we will begin the design and then construction in 2013."

Beach, who represents Congressional District 6 on the State Transportation Board, stated in a press release: “All these transportation enhancement projects in Cherokee, Cobb, DeKalb and Fulton counties add up to two things – safer mobility and better quality of life for all residents of these counties. Projects like these will continue to positively influence the lives of our citizens and I share with pride Georgia DOT’s ability to bring them to these communities.”
