Golfers Needed for Veterans Memorial Walk Tournament
The golf tournament raises money for the planned Johns Creek Veterans Memorial Walk under construction.
There is still room for golfers wishing to play in a tournament to benefit the Johns Creek Veterans Memorial Walk.
The Johns Creek Veterans Memorial Walk Golf Tournament "offers fun competition, such as contests for putting, and longest drive, as well as four hole-in-ones, some of which have automobiles as prizes," the city said in a news release.
The tournament will be held on Monday, March 24, at The Standard Club, located at 6230 Abbotts Bridge Road. Registration opens at 10 a.m. and will be followed by a noon shotgun start.
The entry fee is $700 per team or $175 per player, and includes golf fees, a box lunch on carts, two drink tickets per player, dinner, a Standard Club shirt and prizes.
Players can sign up individually on the city's website. Teams play in foursomes, and the field is limited to first 25 teams that also register on the city's website.
The tournament will use a shamble format in which all players tee off and the best drive is chosen as the starting point for the entire team. The team score is the best ball of the team. Mulligan tickets are available.
The Veterans Memorial Walk will be a meditative and interactive tribute to area veterans, their families and supporters and will have n entrance plaza with flags of all military branches, a gazebo, benches and memorials for each major conflict dating as far back as World War I.
A ground-breaking ceremony for the project was held in November, and the expected date of completion is Veterans Day 2014.
