Dedicated Lane from GA 400 to North Point Parkway Under Construction

North Fulton CID, GDOT expect extra lane with no stopping will clear stopped cars from GA 400 in Alpharetta.

Work continues on adding a new non-stop through lane that will connect the northbound exit ramp off Windward Parkway to North Point Parkway.

Dennis Woodling, the project engineer, said the contractor, JJE Constructors, has completed tasks leading up to sidewalk construction and paving of the eastbound Windward Parkway turn lane project from GA 400 to North Point Parkway.

So far the existing curb and gutter has been removed, underground storm water piping and catch basins have been installed and the graded aggregate base (that gray looking material seen at the site on Friday, Aug. 26) has been installed and fine graded.

Woodling said he saw on Friday that a construction string line was set up for installation of the new curb and gutter, which should start soon.

"After the curb and gutter has been installed, the contractor will fill the shoulder behind the curb and begin construction of the new sidewalk," he said.

Once the shoulder work has been completed, JJE Constructors will begin work on the roadway itself through paving.

Utility work has begun in advance of the new traffic signal pole installation in the southwest corner of the North Point Parkway intersection.

Also, there was utility work underway in advance of the new traffic signal pole installation in the southwest quadrant of the North Point Parkway intersection.

No completion date has been set, though it should be completed before the end of the year, and probably much sooner.

The North Fulton Community Improvement District, a self-taxing group of commercial property owners in North Fulton along GA 400, came up with the project and funded its design. The GA Department of Transportation agreed to fund the $500,000 project as it promises to relieve traffic congestion on a state highway.
