Curbside Book Recycling to Benefit Libraries

Residents can place books in their recycling bins next week, Dec. 5-9, to benefit local libraries.

In addition to bottles and cans, Johns Creek residents can recycle knowledge and entertainment by filling their curbside recycling bins with bags of books Dec. 5 through Dec. 9. Money raised through the city-sponsored program benefits local libraries.

To participate, residents should place their used books in see-through or clearly marked plastic bags, and place them in their curbside recycling bins. When the recycling truck comes by, the crew will collect the books, which will be taken to SP Recycling Sorting Center in Alpharetta. There they will be sorted from other recyclables and given to Better World Books, a pro-literacy company.

Books in good shape will then be sold online or donated to various literacy causes, including for its book sale. Twenty percent of the proceeds of sold books are earmarked for the Friends of Spruill Oaks Library and Friends of . Books in poor condition will be recycled as paper.
