Fulton May Relax Moratorium on Irrigation Meters

Upcoming meeting in Johns Creek will address water conservation rate structure.

Fulton County Department of Water Resources will host a public meeting on Aug. 13 to discuss a proposed modification to the water conservation rate structure.

The meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Atlanta-Fulton County Water Resources Commission’s Water Facility, 9750 Spruill Road, Johns Creek.

According to a press statement, the Fulton County Department of Water Resources is proposing to modify the existing two-tiered water conservation rate structure to a single rate of $5.80/1,000 gallons for irrigation only systems.

If approved by Fulton commissioners, the new single-tiered irrigation rate structure would go into effect Oct. 1.

Since the 2007 drought, Fulton County has maintained a moratorium on the installation of irrigation meters. Any local water provider that currently offers and/or has active irrigation meters must establish an irrigation rate of a minimum of 200 percent of the base water rate, which for Fulton County is currently $2.90/1,000 gallons. The modification to the rate structure will allow the county to relax the moratorium.

Fulton County staff will be on hand to discuss the project and to address concerns.
