City Council Update: Guardrail Bid Approved

Johns Creek City Council OKs donation of tennis backboard.

The Johns Creek City Council on Monday unanimously approved all items on the agenda, including a bid award for $68,608.70 for guardrails along Barnwell, Boles and Old Alabama roads. The city had previously entered into an agreement with the Georgia DOT to accept 100 percent of funds for the project through a safety program. Seven locations on the roads were chosen due to their steep drop-offs.

The council also approved a donation of a tennis backboard and its installation for Newtown Park from a resident. The board comes with a 10-year warranty and is not expected to cost anything in the way of upkeep due to its construction.

Also on the agenda was approval to accept $4,000 from developers of the Stonegrove Overlook subdivision on Parsons Road for future sidewalk improvements. The city had required the developers to construct a sidewalk, but the location is part of a GDOT project that will include construction of a sidewalk in 2015. That project would require the destruction of the sidewalk if it were built now, so the developers offered the money for future sidewalk projects in the city rather than build one that would be destroyed in three years.
