Police Catch 'Wanted' Felon Carrying Pistol

The following information was supplied by the Johns Creek Police Department.

On Sept. 1 a Johns Creek Police officer pulled over a vehicle at the intersection of Jones Bridge and State Bridge roads after determining that the tag was registered to a Lithonia man who had a warrant out for his arrest by the Smyrna Police Department for failure to appear.

The warrant stated that the man had a history of violent tendencies, was armed and dangerous and was known to abuse drugs.

The officer approached the vehicle and asked the man to get out of the car, informing him that there was a warrant out for his arrest and that his drivers license was expired.

The back-up officer asked the man if he had any weapons in the vehicle or on his person, and he stated that he only had a pocket knife.

However, the back-up officer found a book bag in the front passenger seat containing a Bryco .380 pistol with a loaded magazine. The officer determined that the arrest warrant was active and valid, and that the man was a convicted felon.
