On Sunday, Jan. 26, the man who had been stalking a Johns Creek woman for the past 10 years, and is suspected of firing a rifle into her home last week, has been arrested.
James Jones, Jr. of Vestavia Hills, Ala. was arrested in Hoover, Ala. during a traffic stop. The 31-year-old man allegedly shot the door of the Armstrong family's Cauley Creek Drive home on Thursday, Jan. 23.
Jean Armstrong, who had taught at Troy University in Alabama, said he was a former student and had been stalking her for a decade since she intervened when Jones threatened to kill himself.
Over the years he has been calling and sending her emails and text messages. Armstrong told police Jones had become infatuated with her.
Jones is being held in the Hoover municipal jail on the following charges.
- Harassing Communications
- Terroristic Threats
- Aggravated Assault/4 counts
- Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony
- Discharging a Firearm near a city street
Jones was a suspect because of his long-term infatuation with Armstrong. No one was injured during the incident.
