Johns Creek Promotes Four Firefighters

Johns Creek Fire Chief Jeff Hogan announced this week the promotions of Battalion Chief Cam Huynh, Captain L. Wayne Pruitt Jr., Lieutenant Doug Stephenson and Sergeant Robert “Bob” Scott Jr.

“These firefighters have proven their leadership abilities, their knowledge and skills, and their willingness to accept the challenges and obligations that come with their new responsibilities,” said Fire Chief Hogan. “We are very proud of them and wish them well as they continue to serve the Johns Creek community.”

A 15-year veteran of the firefighting profession, Battalion Chief Huynh began his career with the Macon Bibb County Fire Department, and then served with Fulton County Fire Department from 1999 to 2006 and the Sandy Springs Fire Department for two years prior to becoming an inaugural member of Johns Creek’s Fire Department in 2008. He is an Intermediate Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), a Swift Water Rescue Technician and experienced in GSAR response, hazardous material response, technical rescue, fire service management, incident command and fire protection systems.

Captain Pruitt brings 18 years of firefighting and public safety experience to his new position of captain. A native of Powder Springs, he began his career as a volunteer firefighter with Paulding County. He then served 10 years as a Firefighter III with the Fulton County Fire Department, returned to Paulding County in 2001 as a part-time Fire Training Officer, before serving the Sandy Springs Fire Department in 2006 as a Fire Tech II. Pruitt joined the JCFD with its launch in 2008. He is a NPQ Wildland Firefighter I, Hazardous Materials Technician, Fire Inspector I and Intermediate Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

Lt. Stephenson began his public safety career in 1993 as a Nationally Certified Paramedic at the Hutcheson Medical Center at Georgia’s Fort Oglethorpe. From there, he served as a firefighter and paramedic with Marietta Fire and Rescue for six years, and as a shift commander with Walker County Emergency Services for six years before joining the JCFD’s inaugural squad in 2008. He served two tours as a rescue team leader during the Katrina disaster, continues as a lead instructor for the Georgia Smoke Diver Program, and a principal member of the curriculum development team for the Georgia Fire Academy Special Operations Division.

A native of Greenville, Penn., Sgt. Scott served in the U.S. Air Force and attended Non Commission Officers Candidate School before earning an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Paramedic Technology from Clayton State College and University. Beginning with the Fayette County Department of Fire & Emergency Services in 1989, Scott went on to serve with Camden County Fire & Rescue, Henry County Fire Department, DeKalb County Fire & Rescue, and Rural Metro Ambulance Services before joining the JCFD in 2008. He’s a Fire Officer I certified by the National Pro Board, a nationally and state certified paramedic, a National Fire Academy Incident Safety Officer, Dive Master and Hazardous Materials Technician.
