Johns Creek Police Top Fundraisers for Special Olympics Again

The department raised approximately $20,000 for Special Olympics of Georgia.

The 5th annual Johns Creek Police Special Olympics Golf Tournament on May 6 raised about $20,000 for Special Olympics of Georgia (SOGA), making the Johns Creek Police Department the most successful law enforcement fundraiser for the non-profit for the fourth year in a row, according to the city.

"This was a great effort by our officers for a great cause," said Major John Clifton, who spearheaded JCPD’s contribution. "It shows they have a heart for the community and for those with intellectual disabilities. The same goes for our corporate sponsors, who stepped up and helped us help the SOG’s intellectually challenged athletes, which is what it’s really about."

The tournament held on the Tom Fazio-designed course at St. Ives Country Club in Johns Creek is part of the JCPD's annual participation in the non-profit's Law Enforcement Torch Run, which raises money to serve more than 23,000 Georgians with intellectual disabilities. The golf tournament had 25 four-man teams participate.
