Johns Creek Names Firefighter of the Quarter

Ty Tyson, a firefighter and swiftwater rescue team member, receives honor.

The Johns Creek Fire Department has named Ty Tyson as the "Firefighter of the Quarter" for the 4th quarter of 2011, said Chief Jeff Hogan.

"Tyson is an outstanding firefighter and EMT (emergency medical technician). He has proven himself time and again with his skills and resourcefulness, contributing significantly to the department,” said Hogan.

A native of Cobb County, Tyson served with the Austell Fire Department for three years before joining the JCFD in 2008 as a member of its inaugural squad.

During his time at Austell, Tyson trained as a firefighter, EMT, driver and hazmat technician. Since being hired by the JCFD, he has earned a NPQ (National Professional Qualifications) pump operator certification, and has become a certified swift water technician.

“I am honored to be selected for this award,” said Tyson. “I enjoy coming to work, and I especially like being a member of the JCFD Swiftwater Rescue Team. The ‘hooch can be a mighty river when it wants, and it’s very rewarding when we save someone’s life. It’s all good.”
