Johns Creek Launching Citizen Fire Academy

Eight-week program open to citizens, local businesses.

Johns Creek residents can get a detailed look at how their fire department operates when the Johns Creek Fire Department (JCFD) launches its new Citizens Fire Academy on June 4.

During the eight-week course, participants will learn about JCFD operations, fire tactics and strategies and aspects of fire prevention and investigation techniques.

The academy meets June 4, 16, 19 and 30 and July 10, 17, 28 and 31 and includes classroom instruction (equipment, fire prevention); demonstrations (CPR, investigation techniques); and practical exercises (fire ground training, emergency medical exercises).

"The Citizens Fire Academy will be a great way for the Johns Creek community to learn about fire safety," said Asst. Fire Chief Pat Wilson. "And, participants will experience hands-on exercises that will be a lot of fun."

The Citizens Fire Academy is open to Johns Creek residents and those who work in Johns Creek age 18 and older who successfully pass the application process and a criminal history check. The JC Citizen Fire Academy is limited to 20 people.

Download the application or get one at JCFD Headquarters, 10205 Medlock Bridge Parkway. Applications must be submitted by Friday, April 27. If accepted, there is a $25 program fee.
