JCFD Hosting Community Safety Day

Johns Creek firefighters to conduct demos, safety checks.

The Johns Creek Fire Department will perform several demonstrations, including cutting up a car with the “Jaws of Life,” as part of Community Safety Day on Saturday, Oct. 1, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fire Station No. 61, 10265 Medlock Bridge Parkway.

Community Safety Day, a precursor to Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 9-15), will help heighten awareness about basic safety issues.

Firefighters also will perform a variety of rope rescue demonstrations to show some of the many skills they use regularly. They will provide car-seat safety checks, and conduct blood pressure checks upon request.

The Swift Water Rescue Team will explain its equipment and techniques used in saving people in the Chattahoochee River. 

Visitors will be able to ask questions of Johns Creek firefighters, participate in fire station tours, and learn all about fire trucks.

The Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation will answer questions about ways to handle various emergencies. Georgia Power Co. will set up their “Power Town,” a miniature village with real electric lines, to teach youngsters to stay away from downed power lines.

Members of the Johns Creek Police Department’s  Community Services will also participate.

Informational handouts and safety checklists will be available, and the event features children’s activities, such as a Dalmatian-themed bounce house. Firehouse Subs, Jack’s New York Deli, Publix Super Markets, and Chick-fil-A will provide free food and drink while supplies last.
