Hearing in Stolen Gift Cards Case Delayed Due to More Arrests

UPS Store owner, employee also arrested in Dalton.

Today's scheduled plea/bond hearing for Edward Cophenhaver and Margaret Carlisle, who were arrested by Alpharetta police in May for , has been delayed due to the pair's arrest last week in Dalton.

In May, owner Copenhaver and employee Carlise at the UPS Store on Old Alabama Road in Johns Creek were arrested for stealing $2,000 in Target gift cards that had been intended to be mailed to tornado victims in Alabama.

The pair were caught on security video footage at the Alpharetta Target on North Point Parkway spending the gift cards that a customer at the UPS store realized had never reached their destination.

Last week a story ran in the Chattanooga Times Free Press that the pair had also been arrested for stealing money and property that customers had realized were never mailed from the Dalton UPS Store that Copenhaver also owned.

According to the article, Copenhaver and Carlisle, both Dalton residents, were arrested and charged with misdemeanor theft after police searched their home and found a reported missing jacket. The investigation is continuing and more charges may follow.

UPS has since revoked Copenhaver's license and on June 10 to Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church, whose member Kristi Bailey had originally tried to mail the gift cards from the Old Alabama location. That money will go to the intended tornado victims.
