Gas Leak Shuts Down Jones Bridge

Jones Bridge Road from Morton to State Bridge closed for extended period of time.

A portion of Jones Bridge Road in Johns Creek is closed for an extended period of time today due to a gas leak from a damaged six inch gas line broken by construction workers on the scene shortly before 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 20.

“Jones Bridge is shut down from Morton Road to State Bridge Road,” said Johns Creek Chief Fire Marshal Chad McGiboney. “Atlanta Gas and Light is on the scene and they are estimating that they will need at least two hours before they can shut the line down. Then they will start the repairs. At this point, we do not know how long that section of Jones Bridge will be closed.”

Johns Creek Fire has three fire units on the scene, plus Johns Creek Police and the city’s Transportation Response Vehicle are assisting with traffic control.

As a safety precaution, fire crews are monitoring the immediate area around the incident for any spread of gas. No one is being evacuated, but residents of nearby Oak Landing subdivision are being advised to simply stay in their homes.

“If anybody leaves the subdivision, they are not allowed to return until the incident is over and nobody is allowed into the subdivision.  Again, this is a safety precaution only,” added McGiboney.
