19-Year-Old Arrested for Adderall Possession

On Aug. 4 a Johns Creek Police officer pulled over a vehicle on Colony Glen Drive for no tail lights on. The suspect told police that the vehicle was not his and that he was unfamiliar with the lights. The passenger told police that the vehicle was his.

The officer noted that the driver appeared more nervous than normal and was trembling. The vehicle occupants told the officer that they were on their way home to Alpharetta and were lost in the neighborhood, where they had been at a friend's house. The driver told the police officer that his passenger, the car's owner, had a previous arrest for marijuana possession. The officer asked the driver if he had anything illegal in the car, and he said he didn't. 

The officer checked the passenger's information and confirmed he had been arrested in Alpharetta for marijuana possession. The officers asked the passenger to step out of the car, and asked him if there was anything illegal in the vehicle. The passenger told him no, but that he was prescribed Vivance and Adderall. The officer asked the passenger if he could search the vehicle, and the passenger said no, because the last time he allowed police to search his car he was arrested.

The officer asked Alpharetta police to send a K9 officer to sniff around the vehicle. The officer told the driver that he had a K9 on the way. At this point the driver was so nervous he appeared to be physically sick. The officer asked him again if there was anything illegal in the vehicle, and he said there were beers in the back seat and that is why he was so nervous. The driver then sat down on the curb and began to dry heave and vomit.

The K9 officer arrived, performed the sniff and had two hits on the vehicle. The officer then searched the car and found marijuana residue, beers, drug paraphernalia, and a prescription drug bottle with no label containing Adderall. 

The officer called the passenger's parents and asked if he was prescribed Adderall. The father first said no, then all of a sudden said yes. The officer asked the father to come to the scene with proof of the prescription. After 13 minutes the officer called the father back, and he said he had not come up with anything, and he had no proof his son had a prescription.

The officer arrested and charged the driver, a 19-year-old Milton resident, for underage alcohol consumption, a misdemeanor. He arrested and charged the passenger, a 19-year-old Alpharetta resident, with felony possession of a prescription medication, and underage alcohol consumption.

The officer transported both to the Fulton Jail Annex in Alpharetta. While at the jail the driver said he wanted to kill himself, so he was transported to Emory Johns Creek Hospital, where he was admitted.
