Citizens Police Academy to Give a Hands-On Look at the JCPD
Residents will learn how the police department operates in this 9-week course.
Spaces are filling up quickly for the next class of the Johns Creek Citizens Police Academy, which gives residents an opportunity for an up-close, hands-on look at how the police department does its job.
The nine-week course, which starts Aug. 16, provides an in-depth look at police department operations and policies.
"We have people learn how to do traffic stops, and they might get a chance to lift fingerprints," said Sgt. Debra Kalish, head of JCPD Community Services. "I try to make every class fun."

Participants will also get to watch K-9 and SWAT demonstrations, as well as participate in ride-alongs with police and try their skills with a firearms simulator.
The experience doesn't end once the class is over. Kalish said that alumni groups have helped with event traffic and fundraisers, and will also lend a hand during the upcoming PGA Championship.
