Alpharetta, Milton Plan Ceremony on 9/11 Anniversary

Honor guards, speeches and a special guest will commemorate the events of that fateful day.

Alpharetta and Milton will commemorate the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11 events, with a "We Remember" ceremony at the .

The public is invited to the event, which will start at 1:30 p.m., said George Gordon, Public Safety spokesperson.

Mayors, state senators and representatives are expected to be among those officials attending.

The event will include:

  • A large aerial flag display;
  • An honor guard presentation of colors;
  • Singing of the national anthem;
  • Speeches by dignitaries;
  • Placement of a large memorial wreath by a joint honor guard comprised of police officers and firefighters from the cities of Alpharetta and Milton.

Gordon said a moving touch to the ceremony will be the playing of “Amazing Grace” by a bagpiper and the retrieval of colors as “Taps” is played by dueling trumpeters. After the closing prayer, white doves will be released in honor and remembrance for those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.

"We encourage our citizens and guests to attend this ceremony as we collectively come together as a community to remember our citizens and the bravery of our first responders on that fateful day," Gordon said.
