17-Year Veteran Named Firefighter of Quarter

Shawn Maschmeier receives honor from Johns Creek Fire Department.

The Johns Creek Fire Department has named Shawn Maschmeier as the "Firefighter of the Quarter" for the second quarter of 2012, announced Chief Jeff Hogan.

"Shawn is a solid firefighter through and through, and he brings a steady, professional approach to everything he does with and for the Johns Creek Fire Department,” Hogan said. 

A native of Wellington, Mo., Maschmeier began his fire service 17 years ago in Lexington, Mo. As a rookie firefighter he also began training as a paramedic, earning his accreditation from Grand River Technical College.

After two years he moved to the Fire Department of Central Jackson County in Missouri and served as a fire specialist and paramedic for eight years.  He and his family moved to Georgia in 2006 when he was offered a firefighter position with Gwinnett County Fire.

Maschmeier joined Johns Creek Fire with its launch in October 2008. He’s currently a Firefighter II and paramedic serving the Johns Creek community from Station 61.

“I know how lucky I am to not only receive this recognition from my peers, but to work in Johns Creek,” Maschmeier said. “I love my job. Love coming to work every day. That is the real honor.”
