Gerald Rudolph "Jerry" Massey, Jr., 64, of Johns Creek passed away Saturday, Aug. 10 at the Halcyon Hospice in Atlanta. Jerry was born February 18, 1949, to Rudolph and Dorothy (Jackson) Massey in Clinton, NC, the oldest of three children. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1967 and Wake Forest University in 1971.
In 1971, Jerry embarked on what would be a lifelong career in banking, initially with Wachovia Bank in Winston-Salem, NC. In 1974, he joined a small mortgage company in Charleston, SC, which eventually became part of what is now Bank of America.
Jerry was a fixture within this organization for 35 years until he retired in 2009. He continued to work for Key Bank after his retirement and until his passing. He was a well-known, successful, and highly respected member of the Commercial Banking industry. His traits of honesty, fairness, and reliability made him well liked among his peers and his customers.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sharon; daughter, Allison (George) Ambler; sons Chris (Sandy) Massey, and Trey Massey; grandchildren, Kayleigh, Meredith, Alex, Michael, Marshall and Wilson Massey and Audrey and Davis Ambler; sister, Delores (Chuck) Cobb; brother, Louis (Lu) Massey; and his Father, Reverend Gerald Rudolph Massey. Jerry was preceded in death by his Mother, Dorothy Jackson Massey.
A celebratory Mass will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Johns Creek at 10:30 a.m. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sarcoma Foundation of America at curesarcoma.org.
