Parks for Johns Creek!

I have very much enjoyed strolling through Ocee and Newtown parks to inform voters about my candidacy for Johns Creek City Council.  Parks and green space are certainly key elements for achieving a desirable community and quality of life in Johns Creek.

It is very evident during my walks that our city parks are quite popular and are being challenged to meet ever-increasing needs.  As our community grows, available open space to meet these needs is rapidly vanishing.  We could be missing out on the few remaining opportunities to add to our park locations.

I would like our city to pay attention to developing some wonderful parks and green spaces before the land is gone.  If elected, I would ensure that parks and green space receive an equal hearing with other needs as our city sets its priorities in the budget process.

I believe that City Council should work with Fulton County to see what can be done to add a park or trail component to the water reservoir facility on Spruill Road.  There is already a very nice park-like entrance to that facility that is unfortunately behind locked gates.  A nature trail connecting the Spruill Oaks Library to the Autrey Mill Nature Preserve and Heritage Center through the water treatment facility would also be a wonderful addition to our community.

Another potential recreational addition is the creation of a focal point to serve as a City Center.  I envision such a center including a park-like component for the enjoyment of the visitors.  The recent Johns Creek Art Festival showed the potential of the Atlanta Athletic Club grassy fields serving as a possible City Center.

It is my hope that my election to City Council will help refocus the council to more vigorously address park and recreational needs in innovative ways.
