Madonna's Wedding Tiara

The Material Girl walked down the aisle wearing over 100 carats of diamonds, including an Edwardian Tiara consisting of 765 diamonds. Happy Tiara Tuesday!

In 2000, the Material Girl walked down the aisle in style, as would be expected, wearing nothing short of a diamond tiara.  She tied the knot with British film director Guy Ritchie at century-old Skibo Castle, located on a 7,000 acre estate in Scotland.

In keeping with the feel of the location, Modanna wore a Gothic gown designed by Stella McCarthey of Paris for the ceremony.  For the reception she wore a Paul Gaultier and aVersace later for dancing.  The basement of the castle was converted into a disco for the evening, and everyone danced the night away.

Ritchie gave Madonna a stunning bracelet she wore that day, reportedly 19 carats total weight.

The tiara is from the Edwardian period, created sometime around the 1910's.  She purchased it from Asprey of London for $250,000.  It contains 765 diamonds, in an old cut that is no longer used today.  It contains 78 carats total weight of diamonds.  It's composed of 7 graduating floral garlands connected on top by swinging floral festoons , and at the base by ornate scrolls.  The piece converts from a tiara to a fringe necklace by removing it from the fixed brown velvet-wrapped frame and removing the top swag pieces.

Reporters claimed that the tiara had once been worn by Princess Grace of Monaco at the wedding of her daughter, Princess Caroline.  However, images of the wedding show both princesses wearing tiaras that do not resemble Madonna's.

After the wedding, Madonna auctioned off her tiara in "Jewels for Charity," a fundraiser by the Kazanjan Foundation, which was working at the time to raise money for another non-profit, Rebuild the Sould of America.  At that time, the funds were destined to help the people of New Orleans rebuild their city after it was hit by the storm Katrina.
