Skype Brings Holiday Cheer to Senior Center

Johns Creek's active adult center offering Skype for patrons to connect with family and friends.

Just in time for the holidays, Johns Creek is offering free Skype internet service at for its active adult patrons to talk face-to-face with out-of-town friends and relatives anywhere in the world.

The newly installed software on the computers at Park Place will allow patrons to visit via internet cameras during the holidays.

“Some people don’t have computers or Skype at home, and maybe they haven’t seen their loved ones in a while because they live far away,” said City Manager John Kachmar. “We wanted to give them the ability to use this wonderful technology to actually see their friends or family on the computer monitor and have a live conversation. We think it will make them feel more connected.”

To use Skype, the Park Place patron needs to have the friends’ or relatives’ Skype user name or email address. Connections can be made using just a name, but it can be laborious to find a specific person if the name is common. Park Place patrons can use their own Skype account or they can use a Park Place sign-in. Assistance with the program is readily available.

The service will continue on an ongoing basis after the holidays are over.
