Do You Like Turkey? The Answer It Seems Depends On Your Age

Here are some interesting statistics about the upcoming holiday.

There are a lot of statistics floating around in cyberspace about the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday and the biggest shopping day that follows. Here are a few you may find interesting.

Does it seem like the retail Christmas rush is taking over Thanksgiving day this year?

According to a poll taken by TADA.com, a coupon website, 4,509 online shoppers 10 percent said they plan to hit the stores for pre-Black Friday deals, while another 8 percent said they'll head online to shop.

And among those 31 percent will be Gen Y shoppers.

But not everyone will be rushing from the dinner table to shop, 42 percent list visiting with friends and family as their post-meal priority.

And of course there's football: 27 percent of the general public plan on watching at least one game. And those with house hold incomes of $150,000 or more will be more inclined to tune into a game (45 percent).

And an interesting statistic show that there's waning interest in a turkey dinner among the younger demographic—and little to no appetite for cranberries.

While seniors ranked cranberries as their fourth favorite Thanksgiving food after turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing, they came in dead last for Generation Y at 9th place. And Generation Y was the only age group to put turkey in second place; what's more, 10 percent said they don't plan to eat turkey at all.

Roasted turkey takes top honors, but more and more alternative ways to prepare the bird are surfacing, including deep frying, smoking, barbecuing and even dyeing it blue. To-furkey is most popular with Gen Y.
