Wilson Creek Students 'Go Green'

Volunteers collect recyclable materials from each classroom.

The “Green Team” at Wilson Creek Elementary volunteers every Thursday morning before the school day begins to collect recyclable materials from each classroom.

Ninety fourth and fifth grade students take turns each week rolling large recycling bins down the halls, visiting each classroom and office in the school to collect tons of paper, aluminum, cardboard, baggies, file folders, index cards, newspapers and magazines to be recycled.

The “Green Team” is sponsored by Wilson Creek parents Kim Collins and Betsy Skalet, as well as fifth grade teacher Cindy Dumont. The school participates in a single stream recycling program which allows all recyclable materials to be collected in one container without the need to separate or sort in advance.
