Residents Can Help North Fulton Charity 'Stamp Out Hunger'

The 22nd annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive will be on Saturday and will benefit North Fulton Community Charities.

The upcoming 22nd annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers will give back to one north Fulton nonprofit.

The campaign, which will be held Saturday, May 10, will benefit North Fulton Community Charities. The association's letter carriers will collect non-perishable donations as they deliver mail on their postal routes throughout the county.

Last year, the campaign collected 21 tons of food for the charity, which was its largest donation, North Fulton Community Charities said in a press release.

North Fulton Community Charities is asking the public to pitch in and help the organization by donating non-perishable items to letter carriers on Saturday. Items may be placed in a sturdy bag near mailboxes, and postal carriers will collect the items as they make their way along their routes.

As the summer months approach, the organization's pantry will see an increase in families requesting food.

In addition, many families supported by NFCC have children who would ordinarily receive a free or reduced lunch at school. If these children are not attending a summer program, the family pantry and refrigerator doors are "swinging open more often," the agency stated.

"The NFCC food pantry relies heavily on food and financial donations from the North Fulton community," said Heather Mikolajczak, food pantry coordinator. "Our need for donations increases in late spring as we prepare for summer and The Stamp Out Hunger food drive’s timing is perfect. The NFCC Food Pantry wants to thank the United States Postal Service and all of the North Fulton community residents that help to make this program possible. We truly could not distribute food to approximately 100 families each day without the support of programs like Stamp Out Hunger."
