Funds Needed for Young Teen With Rare Disease

Penelope, 13, has mitochondrial encephalomyopathy, a disease that has required numerous hospital visits, nursing care and medications.

Earlier this week, Georgia Patches ran stories with links to fund-raising campaigns in the metro area on GoFundMe, a website which is a Patch partner.

Several campaigns in the Johns Creek and Duluth area are listed (you can search for local efforts by town name, ZIP code or name).

Included is a request from Lorna Rodgers who is raising money to fund medical treatment for a 13-year-old named Penelope who has a rare disease called mitochondrial encephalomyopathy – “mito ” for short.

"We are in need of over $4,000.00 by end of the calendar year to cover Penelope's continuing need. The cost of hospital visits, nursing care, and medications are beyond our ability and as a result has put tremendous financial stress on our family."
