Young Jazz Bass Sensation Andrew Sommer

Late Show Begins at 9:00pm

A member of a musical family, Andrew Sommer, bass, was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. Andrew started his musical studies on the cello in the second grade. He is currently a student of his father, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra double bassist, Douglas Sommer, as well as pianist Kevin Bales. A member of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra for three years, Andrew holds the position of principal bassist this year. In the summer of 2012, Andrew was selected to attend WABASS, where he studied Hal Robinson, Ranaan Meyer, and Eric Larson. He is currently Co-Principal Bassist of the National Youth Symphony Orchestra, led by Valery Gergiev.

Also an accomplished jazz musician, Andrew has participated in the Juilliard Jazz Workshops, Telluride Jazz Festival, and the Vail Jazz Festival, where he studied with John Clayton.  Andrew was also the bassist in the 2013 Grammy Jazz Combo. While in L.A., he got to record a record at Capitol Studios, featuring one of his arrangements. Also while on the West Coast, he played with Juanes and Arturo Sandoval. Andrew will be studying classical double bass at The Juilliard School in the fall.
