Russian Saxophonist Nikolai Panov

SATURDAY MARCH 8TH.  Nikolai Panov is a world-renowned saxophonist
who has performed in countries across the globe, including:  US, France,
Germany , India, China, Netherland, Russia, Belgium, Finland, Poland, Hungary,
Greece, Egypt,  Israel ,Turkey .

Across his performances, Nikolai has shared the frontline with:
Steve Wonder, Natalie Cole, Gunther Schuller, Jonny Griffin, Cyrus Chestnut,
Miki  Howard, Deborah

Brown , Phillip Catherine, and Dave Samuels, as well as, many other outstanding

musicians.

His group “Four-Mation” just finished recording their new CD
album. Nikolai’s performance at The Velvet Note will feature music from their
CD, and you will be the first audience and the first critics of the
album.  Four-Mation includes Nikolai Panov on tenor and soprano
saxophone, Mark Tucker on piano, Steve Blair on acoustic bass, and Bill Norman
on drums. Nikolai met these musicians when he appeared as a guest artist for
the GPC band, led by Greg McLean, one year ago and was impressed with their
musicians’ sensitivity and musical approach. Nikolai’s idea was to make a whole
program of original music in the style they all share. This, in turn, became
the center of gravity which brought

them together.  It was this energy that resulted in their shared
dedication and in their latest CD,  “Cold Spring”.
