Dancing Goat Theater Presents 'Shakespeare's Twelfth Night'

Drawing upon the carnivalesque spirit associated with Twelfth Night (the Feast of the Epiphany in the Roman Catholic and Greek Orthodox Churches), the play presents a world where social norms are disregarded and desire seems to gain free reign.

Twins, Viola and Sebastian, are shipwrecked in Illyria and both think the other dead. When she arrives in Illyria, Viola disguises herself as a man and adopts the name Cesario, becoming a trusted friend and confidante to the Count Orsino. Orsino is madly in love with the lady Olivia, who is in mourning due to her brother's recent death.

Orsino sends Viola (still disguised as Cesario) to woo Olivia for him; however, Olivia does not reciprocate the Duke's love and falls in love with the disguised Viola. To complicate matters, moronic nobleman, Sir Andrew Aguecheek, and self-important servant, Malvolio, get caught up in the schemes of Olivia's uncle, Sir Toby, who leads each to believe Olivia loves him.

The situation is even further complicated when Sebastian surfaces in Illyria and encounters Olivia, Sir Andrew, and Sir Toby. The result is one of Shakespeare's true comic masterpieces.
