JCE Fun Run

If you had happened to be standing on the county line at McGinnis Ferry and Old Atlanta Road on September 27th, you would have heard the excitement coming from Johns Creek Elementary School. JCE is located less than a half mile North of the line in Forsyth County. All day that Friday, JCE was holding its PTA Fundraiser, the JCE Fun Run. PE teacher, Kim Autry, designed the course for the event. Students ran laps, one grade at a time, while Mr. Krosner, the music teacher, served as MC for the event and played great music. Classes chose a class nickname and submitted types of fun laps to do for the event such as the “scream and run lap”, “act like a cat”, “moon walk”, and “monster walk”. Many classes made banners to show their class spirit. Teachers marked laps on wristbands worn by students as they made their way around each lap.

To promote the program, Fun Run volunteers greeted parents and students on the curb during morning carpool to remind them to collect sponsorships and to build excitement. They also had a pep rally complete with Fun Run cheerleaders to get the students motivated. Students earned great prizes for collecting sponsorships and there was a friendly competition among classes to see who could raise the most money for the school.

JCE students asked family members to sponsor them for their participation in the run. JCE PTA collected an amazing $28,000 for the school during this event. This event was managed completely by JCE’s outstanding parents volunteers, led by Fun Run Committee members Cheri Proels, Sandra Caviness, and Kelli Bercik. The volunteers helped set-up tents, manned the water station, made sure that the school mascot, Jaggy, made an appearance, and helped clean up afterward. Because the event was organized 100% in-house, the profit will all go directly to the school. JCE PTA plans to use the money raised for grants, programs, and school enhancements, including an outdoor classroom space. Way to go Johns Creek Elementary!
