Kane, A Wonderful Dog With A Broken Heart.....

"It's the Dog...or Me"

I'd like to tell you a heartbreaking story about one of the most loyal breeds of dogs known to man: the Golden Retriever.  It is said that Goldens, as they are often referred to, will often grieve themselves almost to the point of death over the loss of their owner or, even worse, being abandoned by a previous owner.

This breed truly loves from the depths of their souls and they feel that deep love, and loyalty, long after an owner leaves their lives.  They have been known to sit by a window or pressed against the bars of their cells in an animal shelter, for hours and days, longingly looking for an owner who will never return.  Their grief can be seen in their eyes, all the way down to their souls.

KANE is one of these wonderful animals - a Senior Golden Retriever who once had an owner he loved and adored for many years.  Then, something changed in their lives...Kane's owner brought someone "new" to the home he shared with his boy, Kane.  Although Kane tried valiantly to make friends with the new human who had come into his home - although he tried hard to figure out how to "share" his person with this new human - nothing he tried seemed to make a difference.  It was plain that a "choice" was coming.....and what Kane feared most deep in his heart happened.  There came that day when the new lady of the house said to Kane's owner, "It's the dog, or me."  Sadly, the owner turned his back on his loyal canine companion, and chose the girlfriend instead of Kane.

Suddenly, the world Kane had known and loved for so long was now gone....

Instantly, his world changed from a home, a safe place full of toys and a warm bed, tummy rubs and rides in the car with his human to a cold, loud, awful place in a small cell with no toys, no bed, just a bucket of water, some food in a metal bowl and nothing but cold steel bars to look out of - where so many other pets once loved and wanted now sat in their cells like Kane's....abandoned, unloved, unwanted.....waiting on a fate no animal should ever have to face.

Kane's story doesn't end there, though.  He was one of the lucky ones...he was saved by volunteers of Angels Among Us Pet Rescue and is now an "Angel boy" who is in a loving foster home.  Kane shares this home with other rescued dogs also waiting for their forever homes and families to come along.

Although his heart was broken, Kane is one of those wonderfully wise Senior dogs and he knows there is still life for him to live, and a new family who won't break his heart again, who will CHOOSE to keep him, and love him forever!  When he sleeps at night close to his foster mom, he feels her gentle touch as she softly scratches his ears and gently caresses his head, telling him his FOREVER home is just around the corner, and that he still has the promise of a home of his own where he can stay for a lifetime!

Kane is neutered, housetrained, so wonderful in the house he doesn't need crating, is up-to-date on all his vetting/shots, is microchipped and ready for his new family!  He's looking for a family he can be a companion to, as well as take long car rides with, and who will appreciate his habit of sleeping on his back!  He will also need a home with a fenced yard and secure gate.  Most of all, Kane dreams of someone who'll give him lots of love, belly rubs, and be home most of the time so he can never have to feel "abandoned" again.
