Voter Turnout Light at Some Johns Creek Poll Locations

Polls close at 7 p.m. Check back with Patch for the final results.

The Johns Creek elections have taken center stage for the past six weeks.

Controversy has swirled around the campaigns of Mayor Mike Bodker, the city's first mayor, and challenger Bev Miller, a former city council member (Post 6) who resigned in August to run for the mayoral seat.

Yet turnout at the polls have been relatively light.

At almost 3 p.m., just four hours away from the polls closing, only 178 had cast their votes at the polling station at Northview High School that has 2,600 registered voters.

"It's been a constant dribble," said Cheri Lawson, who has been the poll manager for the past 10 years. "The biggest line we had was four standing in line at lunch time."

The turnout at the poll location at Johns Creek United Methodist Church was even lighter.

"We haven't had a line at all," said poll manager Claire Dent who said they had only about 100 voters come through by 3:15 p.m. The location serves about 1,600 registered voters.

Along with the mayoral race, there is one challenger, Dr. Lenny Zaprowski, who is hoping to unseat Randall Johnson (Post 1), who has served on the city council since 2006.

And Karen Richardson, (Post 3), has two challengers, Cori Daveenport and Nancy Reinecke.

Polls close at 7 p.m. - check back with the Johns Creek Patch for the final results.
