Bodker Re-Elected, Council Member Johnson Loses to Zaprowski

Council member Karen Richardson is in a runoff with Cori Davenport.

In a contentious, often heated mayoral race that divided residents, Johns Creek's first and only mayor since the city formed in 2006, was re-elected.

Mike Bodker, who has served as mayor since the city was founded, will remain in the top spot on the city council in this north Fulton city of some 86,000, winning by 57.52%.

Bodker, 48, withstood an investigation launched against him by five city council members just months before election time.

The inconclusive report, which cost the city over $60,000, did not sway ardent supporters who voted to keep Bodker as their mayor.

"It certainly has been a hard fought race," said Bodker Tuesday night. "But this was not about me, this was about serving the citizens. I'm satisfied I'll have the opportunity to continue to do that."

Bev Miller, the former City Council member for Post 6 who resigned her seat to run for mayor, captured 42.02% of the vote.

Patch attempted to reach Miller for this story but phone calls were not returned in time for the deadline for this story.

And in the City Council race, there was a shakeup as one long time council member was ousted and another is in a runoff.

Incumbent Randall Johnson (Post 1) was defeated by newcomer Leonard Zaprowski, 67.74% to 31.83%.

City Council member Karen Richardson (31.44%) is in a runoff with Cori Davenport (45.68%). Nancy Reineke came in third with 22.59% of the vote.

Kelly Stewart, Post 5, ran unopposed.

The vacant Post 6 council seat will be decided in the spring.

Election results:

Bodker, 57.52%, 3,436 votes
