Update: Mayor Defends Himself on WSB TV News Show

Bodker says tension is over pedestrian bridge.

Update, Friday, June 20, 1:15 p.m:

Defending himself after the Johns Creek City Council voted to hire a law firm to investigate unspecified actions, Mayor Mike Bodker said in an interview with WSB TV that "tensions" and the investigation are a result of his support of a pedestrian bridge.
An attorney with the law firm hired to investigate the mayor told WSB reporter Mike Petchenik that the firm will charge the city $185 an hour. According to the report, council members have been instructed to not talk to the media regarding the issue. Read the full story here.

Update, Tuesday, June 18, 6:06 p.m.:

According to a statement issued by Johns Creek Council Member Randall Johnson, the council has hired the firm of Wilson, Morton & Downs of Decatur to handle the investigation of Johns Creek Mayor Mike Bodker.

Johnson stated that a report will be made available to the public once the investigation is complete.

“This action follows several reprimands of Mayor Bodker about certain questionable actions he’s taken over the last several years,” Johnson said in the statement. “Unfortunately, that approach didn’t work and now the Council is left with no other choice but to turn to the investigative process as allowed under the City’s charter (Section 3.12).”

The Johns Creek City Council announced after its regular Monday meeting that it plans to hire an outside attorney to investigate "actions" by Mayor Mike Bodker, according to a report by the Johns Creek Herald.

According to the article, the council did not elaborate on the actions it will investigate, but said it simply wanted answers and was not filing charges.

Bodker told the Herald that he did not know what is prompting the investigation, and he questioned the timing, saying it could be politically motivated as he is up for election this year.
